Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. ~ John 15:13
It is tempting and somewhat easy to keep ourselves isolated and to be superficial with others in order to avoid disappointments, betrayal, and rejection. However God did not intent for us to be alone, in fact He fashioned us to have friends in high places.
Friends in high places are people that are living with a Kingdom of Light mentality. They are the individuals who prophesy over your life, encourage you, cry with you, tell you the truth when you are wrong, see you for who you truly are, and are motivated to push you to be your greatest version of you. They are not jealous, envious or backbiters. In fact friends in high places are the type of friends that defend you, protect you in prayer, and overall have a genuine love for you, which is uncontaminated with selfish motives.
Naomi had a friend in high places named Ruth. When Naomi lost everything her widowed daughter-in-law, Ruth, refused to leave Naomi. Ruth then dedicated her life in supporting Naomi. (read Book of Ruth). David had a friend in high places who was named Jonathan. Although, Jonathan was in line to be the next King of Israel, he saw the greatness in David and surrendered his inheritance to him, even to the point of going against his own father, King Saul, for the greater benefit of the Kingdom (1Samuel 18:3-4). We too have a heavenly friend in high places named Jesus. He laid down his life at the cross so that we could live. He is preparing a place with many mansions and is our chief advocate to the Father.
Do you have a friend that requires you to lay down your life for them? Please know, there is only one Jesus Christ, I am not talking about death, but about sacrificial actions such as; time, resources, and labor. Having a friend in high places and being a friend in high places takes intentional effort. You must allow God to create these covenant relationships. Don’t be in haste, you don’t want to open yourself intimately to a Judas. Guard your heart with all diligence, but don’t barricade it with stone that love cannot flow in or out. Embrace the gift of friendship and enjoy your friends in high places, life is so much sweeter when you do.
