Merry Christmas!

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. ~ Isaiah 9:6

Last week I received a text from a dear friend who forwarded me a post regarding the history behind the 12 days of Christmas song. It was fascinating so I thought it would be great to pass it on.

12 Days of Christmas

Did you know this?

The Partridge in a pear tree represents Jesus Christ.

The two turtle doves are the Old and New Testaments.

The three French hens stand for Faith, Hope and Love.

The four calling birds are the gospels, Mathew, Mark, Luke & John.

The five golden rings recalled the Torah or law, the first five books of the Old Testament.

The six geese a laying stand for the six days of creation.

The seven swans a swimming represent the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit-Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.

The eight maids a milking are the eight beatitudes.

The nine ladies dancing are the nine fruits of the Spirit-Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.

The ten lords a leaping are the Ten Commandments.

The eleven pipers pipping stand for the eleven faithful disciples.

And last but not least the twelve drummers drumming symbolizes the twelve points of belief in the Apostles Creed. ~ Author unknown

Isn’t that amazing, there will always be CHRIST in Christmas. Whether it be in a song or a story. Because God’s love for us was expressed when his Son Jesus was born, with the intent to die for our sins and create a way for eternal life with him, his name will forever be glorified and remembered.

So beloved as you spend this special time with friends and family embrace the spirit of Christmas and be Merry. Be Merry because God loves you. Be Merry because you have a reason to celebrate every day of the year for you were thought of when a baby boy was born in Bethlehem over 2000 years ago. Be Merry because you are a Gift from God wrapped and fashioned for Greatness.

So from my family to yours Do Life Big! and have a Merry Merry Christmas!!!
