Day 5: LETTING GO OF THE PAST
The Journey of Preparation to Singleness, Marriage & Intimacy With God
Day 5: Letting Go Of The Past
Have you ever had those nostalgia moments, when you reminisce on what we like to call the good ole days? However, if we are honest with ourselves, we have allowed ourselves to picture those run to yesterday moments to resemble a perfectly scripted movie, with nothing but joy and happiness.
It’s funny how time can change our memory. Because of this we sometimes tend to glamorize our past relationships. In our memory our last boyfriend/girlfriend who was unable to commit, is the “The One” that got away. Or the ex-husband/wife who was emotionally absent, was the best thing in our life, all the while we are missing out on the right now opportunities of our love story that is trying to unfold.
So today’s lesson for us who are on the journey of preparation to singleness, marriage & intimacy with God is to let it go! Let go of the past so you can embrace your future.
When God told me to let go of the mental pictures from my past, I protested. Being a psychotherapist I know the power of having happy thoughts and what it does to our spirit, mind and body. But like the all knowing beautiful God, he gently showed me the errors of my ways with his word.
Forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before. Philippians 3:13
When we spend time focusing, reminiscing, and meditating on our past relationships, we can’t reach for the good things that are in our future. My question was, “then why do we have memories?” And God’s answer was “to learn from, not to live in!”
I told y'all this was going to be a bumpy ride….
He further stated that when we live in the memory of the past we are actually living with the dead. Those moments are dead, but our right now is alive.
So what do we do?
We live in the now! Memories will come in our mind...don't fight them. Find out why that memory has come to you, and spend a moment to see what lesson(s) you are to learn from it. Then check back in to the now.
So the lesson in the story! Let’s live with the living Beautiful One! Until tomorrow happy living!
With Beautiful Love
