The Journey of Preparation to Singleness, Marriage & Intimacy With God

Today’s Lesson: Good Samaritan generosity inspires more giving. More giving inspires more joy and more hope.

Have you ever been in a Starbucks drive thru and arrived to the window to discover the vehicle ahead of you paid for your order. Or have you ever had a perfect stranger pays for your entire grocery basket at the check out. Or had a random customer sitting at the table next to you paid for your tables meals.

Well I have, and I loved it. I have also been the one giving these generous gifts and I loved that too.

The Good Samaritan is derived from a parable told by Jesus in the Gospel of Luke. It is about a Jewish traveler who is stripped of clothing, beaten, and left half dead alongside the road. After many pass him by, leaving him with no help, finally, a Samaritan happens upon the traveler. Samaritans and Jews despised each other, but the Samaritan helps the injured man anyway.

A Good Samaritan is a compassionate person who unselfishly helps others especially strangers, looking for nothing in return.

Being a recipient of a generous act makes you feel loved and appreciated, while being the giver causes you to feel empowered and loving.

How this ties to the journey of singleness, marriage and intimacy with God, is the knowing that God is love. Building yourself up in love through acts of kindness encourages your growth in singleness, marriage and intamacy with God.

Because to give is an expression of love in a tangible way, but what makes it special and qualify as a Good Samaritan act is that there are no strings attached to the encounter.

So practice giving generously with no expectancy of gaining anything in return but the feeling of sharing hope and joy with another. Until tomorrow be a Good Samaritan to someone that can never repay you.

With Beautiful Love
