The Journey of Preparation to Singleness, Marriage & Intimacy With God

Obed-Edum was a man that knew his purpose and because he knew his purpose his family and everyone who encountered him was blessed because of it. The remarkable thing about Obed-Edum was that his purpose was to be the keeper of the Ark of The Covenant.

If you follow the background of the Ark of the Covenant you will read that it’s first home was in Shiloh and traveled through time to the City of David in Jerusalem. During this transition of locations there were many homes to the Ark, some from Israel's enemies due to being stolen, and others homes of friends to Israel. One of the stops after being stolen by the Philistines was with Avinadav, a priest and his three sons for 20 years. For those 20 years the home of Avinadav had no significant changes.

When King David captured the city of Jerusalem from the Jebusites, he sends for the ark to be brought. However during transporting one of Avinadav’s sons was killed for disrespecting the Ark by touching it. Because of the death of one man King David decided to send the Ark to Obed-Edom the Gittite, and there it was there for just 3 months.

Within those three months Obed-Edum and everyone around him became prosperous. What was the difference between Abinadab and Obed-Edum? Oved-Edum reveranced the Ark as the presence of God. He also taught his family to do the same. Whereas Avinadad and his family treated the Ark as merely a box. There for Obed-Edom saw life and Abinadab saw death.

When King David heard about Obed-Edums blessed life, David came to get the Ark. When David came Obed-Edum had one request. And that was to go with King David to Jerusulum with The Ark to be the keeper of the Ark. David granted him this request and so Obed-Edom, his wife, his sons and anyone else who saw the blessing in the Ark, all left with the Ark to the City of David.

In this new city Obed-Edum continued to prosper. All because he knew that there was no better place to be than in the presence of God. He lived all his days worshiping, working, and loving this place. To the day he died he was and will forever be in the presence of God.

Today’s Lesson: Stay in the presence of the Lord, for there is no other place you need to be.

Until tomorrow in your journey of singleness, marriage and intimacy with God, go deeper in and stay there!

With Beautiful Love
