The Journey of Preparation to Singleness, Marriage & Intimacy With God
Day 123: SEEK FOR SILENCE
One of my bucket list items is to spend time at a silence retreat. No talking for a good week. That seems like heaven to me. I love quietness, it brings me into a mind space of tranquility.
As I researched retreat spots God gave me a daily lesson to share with you on today’s blog.
Today’s Lesson: Learn how to listen to your spirit.
We are spirit and our spirit has continual communion and connection with God. When we spend time not speaking we start a process into self-discovery and inner tranquility.
The process that occurs
1. Monkey Mind
When you stop talking you will transition into the “monkey mind”. The ‘monkey mind’ is a part of your mind that is triggered when you intentionally try to not speak. Basically, your mind swings from thought to thought like a monkey on a set of tree branches because sometimes, just by trying to quiet your thoughts, they can actually increase and then spin out of control. It takes about 24 hours of silence for your mind to settle and for the thoughts to grow quieter, but once they do, you will know a peace of mind like never before.
2. Listen To Your Inner Dialog
With less monkey mind chatter comes clearer thoughts and an increased focus on one’s inner dialog. This is when the journey of self-discovery truly begins. When you can’t communicate with others verbally, you start to ‘speak’ to your inner self, and most importantly to listen to your inner monologue to understand who you are and how you feel about who you are.
3. Become Acquainted With Your Spirit
You are a spirit with a soul living in a body. Many times we are in communion with just our soul (Mind, Feelings) and body and neglect our true self which is spirit. Communing with your spirit you will receive strategies, plans and directions from God. This time listening with your spirit creates a greater intimacy with God.
At the end of your quiet time you will come out enlightened, empowered, and equipped to engage the world on purpose.
Until tomorrow you don't need to wait to attend a silent retreat to experience the benefits stated above. You can start where you are. Spend 30 minutes today in silence and you will feel calmer, lighter and happier. Try it!
With Beautiful Love
