Day 198: I DON'T WANT NO SHADY LOVE

April 28, 2020

The Journey of Preparation into Singleness, Marriage & Intimacy With God

Day 198: I DON'T WANT NO SHADY LOVE

Today’s Lesson: Love is nothing to hide or be ashamed of.

I was listening to one of my favorite songs of all times, as I have mentioned in previous posts, “Golden” by Chrisette Michele. Today as I was listening to it on repeat, one of her lyrical lines in the song jumped out to me and made me chuckle, it was “I don't want no shady love”.

What is shady love?

My perception of shady love is when you are in a relationship with a person, however they are wanting the relationship to stay a secret from others. Now I can see at the beginning, but after months, 1, 2 and 3 years, Houston, we have a problem.

Now I say this from personal experience. I was in a courtship with a man, where at the beginning it seemed right to keep it just between us, however after 3 years and him announcing his engagement to another woman in the church, directly after passing me a note, I realized his motives were not to protect me, but to keep his devilish field gazing in the church a secret.

While on the journey of preparation into singleness, marriage and intimacy with God there are no justifiable reasons behind keeping your love a secret. God is love and He is no secret. If the relationship is pure and inline with God’s plans for you and your partners life, why the secret?

Reasons a person may want to keep the relationship a secret. It could be:

  1. Fear that it won't last, so they don't want to jinx it

  2. Not wanting others to talk against it and potentially break you up

  3. They are dating multiple people

  4. Their already married

  5. They have commitment issues

  6. Did I mention fear

Majority of the time it’s driven by fear and or commitment issues, not deception. If so don't pressure them, don't argue with them, and don't be angry. Give them your feelings regarding the matter and decide from there if they are able to push past their fears and or commitment issues to let your love shine to the world.

And if they can't, it’s okay, move on. God has the person for you who will.

So until tomorrow #noshadylovewelcomedhere only #bright&shininglove

With Beautiful Love
