The Journey of Preparation into Singleness, Marriage & Intimacy With God

Yesterday I ran into a beautiful sister friend of mine and we began to talk about the dangers of competing against someone else's achievement and successes. The conversation then invited to her personal reflection that opened up my whole understanding on the concept of comparison,

My beautiful sister friend disclosed to me that she never had a problem with comparing herself to another person, however she compared herself to her former self. To understand fully. My beautiful sister friend was a NFL cheerleader, she traveled the world, met amazing people and enjoyed life to the fullest. She stated that she compares herself to that version of her. She stated she now has to have a “new normal”

As I left my beautiful sister friend our conversation stuck with me well into today.

Isn't it okay to compare yourself to yourself? I have been taught that you should be the only person you compare yourself to. But what if you are comparing yourself to a phantom you, a long gone you a glory days you?

Today’s Lesson: Don't compare yourself to nobody. Don't even compare yourself to your yesterday self, compare yourself to your future self.

On the journey of preparation into singleness, marriage and intimacy with God it will behoove you to strive to be the best version of you and that is the version you have not yet become. You should aspire to be your future self. The self you write about in your vision statements. The future self you have depicted in your vision board.

You sell yourself short when you assume that your sister and/or brother is an equal to compare to or even to aspire to be. God knew you before you were in your mother's womb. He made no mistakes of who you are and who you will become.

So until tomorrow, #futureme watch out I’m coming for ya!

With Beautiful Love
